ISAC U11's Volleyball Exchange

We took five fantastic teams for the ISAC end-of-season volleyball exchange on Saturday, the 18th of January. All of the teams played incredibly well and made us very proud. Check out the highlights video below to see how the event went!

This was a friendly competition but it was great to see the level of competitiveness from all schools and athletes that attended. The sportsmanship and enthusiasm on display were inspiring and our students presented themselves brilliantly.

Thank you to all who were involved and well done to the volleyball teams for a very successful season!

BWYA Sports Days

As the summer sun begins to show her face, the annual BWYA sports days have now drawn to an end.?

The theme of this year’s sports days was enjoying sports together. All the games were inclusive, and enabled every student to enjoy?joining in.?Warming up?with a dance all the primary school students had learnt, the?students quickly got into their active?states, ready for fun and joy!?

At the conclusion of the primary school sporting highlight of the year, Primary School Sports Director, Nabil?Zafati, shared his pride at all the students’ achievements and effort with us, “I’m really happy all the kids were able to have lots of fun, they showed great skills, teamwork and sportsmanship.?Throughout the year they’ve been displaying great spirit in their PE classes, and it was wonderful to see them eager to share that with their peers, teachers and parents today! We’re always in the pursuit of their success and happiness.”?

After the primary school?events, the secondary school had a focus on team?sports, with?dodgeball,?chuckball, ‘pirate’s treasure’, and 4-sided handball all displaying the importance of cooperation. As the afternoon went on, all the?teams quickly learned how best to play to every member’s?strengths, and achieve the best outcome.

In the end, after the?intense and quality competition, for?the upper primary school?it was?the Blue Team?who?were crowned?winners. Following this, and perhaps inspired by their classmates’ success,?the secondary school?Blue?Team also?took home the secondary school trophy this week!??

Staying Active at Home http://www.buling.xyz/staying-active-at-home/ Wed, 08 Apr 2020 07:15:04 +0000 http://www.buling.xyz/?p=8501

Staying Active at Home

Recently, ?staying active and healthy has become one of the biggest challenges for ?families around the world. At BWYA however, we are very fortunate to ?have the input from our professional team of PE teachers. Along with ?regular activities, ?our students have been given many varied projects to work on, helping ?them to stay positive and healthy. Additionally, for the entire ?e-learning period, we have even had an after-school live workout on ?offer, enjoyed by many students and staff.?

We recently found some time to talk with the Head of Primary Physical Education, Mr. Nabil Zafati, about how they have adapted their teaching for this period, and how the students have found staying active at home. “Most of our students have been really working hard and responding well to the ?activities and tasks assigned. One thing I have been doing with my ?classes is to send them fun workout videos, like dance, Zumba and ?fitness.”

Motivation is also an important topic, without the encouragement from peers around you, or the enjoyment of exercise outside, it can be difficult to stay positive sometimes. Mr. Zafati had this helpful advice, “I think it’s always nice to work out and exercise while having fun. At the beginning of this online marathon, I sent them posters about the benefits of physical education, and uploaded a lot of visuals to enhance the idea and to motivate them to keep exercising.”

Similarly, at the secondary school the students have had a great range of activities to work on. In particular, the Grade 6 students have been learning Capoeira, Grade 7 Jiu-Jitsu, Grade 8 developing warm up tutorials, Grade 9 jump rope with six elements displayed, and Grade 10 have been doing online group dance performances. In these latest units, students work at home based on the guidelines given by the teachers, and record videos for feedback.

The Head of Secondary Physical Education, Mr. Mirko Mirkovic, also shared with us, “Under the guidance of their teachers, the secondary school students have made home training plans, and then submit reflections and feedback every week. As they say, give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish, you feed him for life. In addition to sharing fitness skills and knowledge, we also hope that the students can use what they have learned, to understand how to exercise properly and cultivate their own healthy habits, habits they can keep for life.”

We hope you are keeping active and healthy during this period, above we’ve assembled a short video highlighting some of our students’ hard work. Why not have a go yourself?!

First Place for the Aquawolves and Volleyball Girls http://www.buling.xyz/first-place-for-the-aquawolves-and-volleyball-girls/ Thu, 13 Dec 2018 01:39:31 +0000 http://www.buling.xyz/?p=1447

First Place for the Aquawolves and Volleyball Girls

Don’t underestimate our little ones! Last weekend, our primary school girls walked away with first place from the ISAC Mini Volleyball Tournament, and our young aquawolves won first place in six heats at the ISAC Swim Meet.

After the results were tallied, BWYA student Brian Zhang won first place out of 22 entrants in the boys 11-12 years butterfly, and third place out of 43 entrants in the freestyle.

All this goes to show our students not only have the smarts, but are also benefitting from our excellent PE programme. Speaking about the volleyball, Nabil Zafati, Head of Primary Physical Education told us, ‘Our first team dominated the whole tournament. They won all six games that they played. They showed really good sportsmanship, great skills, and excellent teamwork. The other two teams?also made great improvements. Our girls were getting better with each passing game. They never gave up!’ ‘As their coach, I’m so proud of these girls. Their hard work has really paid off. They proved themselves to be very coachable young athletes.’

For the coming Christmas break, we hope all the BWYA family has time to enjoy some well-earned rest, but perhaps take it easy on the Christmas puddings(!) – we look forward to seeing what’s to come next year on the sporting stage…!

Teamwork Wins the Day http://www.buling.xyz/teamwork-wins-the-day/ Fri, 12 Oct 2018 05:32:24 +0000 http://www.buling.xyz/?p=396

In the beautiful autumn sunshine, BWYA recently held our annual sports day for the secondary school students. Our 4 school houses competed together, with the blue house ultimately coming out as victors, and the yellow and red houses winning the sportsmanship awards for the middle and high schools.

This year, our PE staff worked particularly hard to make the events as inclusive as possible, rather than entirely focusing on the fastest runners or highest jumpers. Speaking with Head of PE, Mr. Mirko Mirkovic, he told us how it had taken ‘a(chǎn) lot of hard work to design different activities that would work with the different student age groups’, but from the students’ feedback after the event, it is clear to see that their hard work very much paid off!

On the day, house teams spent 25 minutes at different stations, with the winner decided as the house whose teams had accumulated the most points from all the stations. Stations included the jump rope challenge, ultimate frisbee, yoga volleyball, dodge ball battle, hula hoops chain, and many many more, all promoting team work and collaboration, as well as physical abilities.

This in turn goes to reflect our school’s stance on healthy living, with PE teachers just as able to coach football, as they are to teach about nutrition and dietetics. In a society where children increasingly spend their free-time engaged in solitary screen-based activities, we at BWYA instead want to impress upon our students the importance of physical activity, healthy living, as well as the benefits of healthy competition.

A big congratulations to all of the students for their fantastic efforts, and well done in particular to the blue house!
